Decrease in Remedial College Courses
DISTRICT 126 POINT OF PRIDE:
Since 2018, District 126 has experienced a steady decrease in the percentage of graduates needing remedial coursework upon entering community college—a strong indicator that more of our students are graduating ready for credit-bearing, college-level work.
Under the 2021–2025 Strategic Plan, the district committed to both reducing college remediation rates and ensuring that at least 90% of students graduate with a clear post-secondary plan. We remain proud of the progress we’ve made and continue to build on this work as part of our Vision 2030 efforts to support Future-Focused Learning.
These outcomes are deeply connected to our Goal 721 initiative—ensuring every student leaves high school on day 721 with a plan and the preparation to pursue it with confidence.
Community College Remediation
The graph on the left displays the percentage of District 126 graduates who are required to take remedial (non-credit-bearing) courses at Illinois community colleges, including math, reading, or writing.
The College of Lake County remains the most frequently attended community college among District 126 graduates. Please note that remediation data is reported after students complete their first year of community college, meaning the 2024 data reflects students who graduated in 2022.
This information helps the district assess college readiness and strengthen curriculum alignment to ensure that more graduates are prepared for credit-bearing coursework upon enrollment.

Post-Secondary and Workforce Readiness
At Zion-Benton Township High School District 126, we are committed to ensuring that every student is prepared for life beyond high school—whether that path leads to college, career, technical training, or military service.
Our motto, Goal 721, reflects this mission. On day 720, our students walk across the stage, hear their name announced, and receive their high school diploma. On day 721, we want each graduate to be ready to confidently pursue their post-secondary goals and dreams.
