•  MTSS Team Referral Process

    A Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) is a systemic, continuous-improvement framework in which data-based problem solving and decision making is practiced across all levels of the educational system for supporting students (Colorado Department of Education, 2016). For a list of common vocabulary click this link.  

    Prior to making a referral to the MTSS Team via the Google Doc form, please make sure that you have attempted some specific support with the student and documented your attempts. Possible supports may include but are not limited to:

    • Student/Parent contact
    • Tier 1 support options (Click link)
    • Contact other classroom teachers for insight regarding student
    • Tutoring (schedule time to meet with student and/or assign academic lab) 

    Students can be referred by a classroom teacher, advisor, parent/guardian and any member of the MTSS Team. When a student is brought up at team meetings referral information is shared, and other members may communicate additional information regarding the student if prior contact was made.

    The team brainstorms/recommends possible supports that may include but are not limited to:

    • Student/Parent contact
    • Teacher contact to provide recommended next steps
    • Review of records or contact with foundational school
    • Social Work screening
    • Schedule change
    • Other appropriate next steps

    The team may initiate a tier 2 plan and a follow up date is set. A number of supports and follow ups may be attempted before a formal plan is created. If the student continues to be unsuccessful either academically or behaviorally, a more intensive (tier 3) support plan may be considered after 4-6 weeks.
